Steven Ensminger Jr sues aircraft owners
Carley McCord and four others including the pilot lost their lives when a small plane carrying them crashed near Lafayette Regional Airport in Louisiana. She was just 30 at that time.
After the initial grief phase, Carley’s widower Steven Ensminger Jr has now sued the aircraft owners, Global Data Systems, Inc., Cheyenne Partners, LLC., Eagle Air, LLC., and Southern Lifestyle Development Company, LLC.
He has also named in this lawsuit filed at the Lafayette Parish court this month the insurers for the aircraft and also the pilot’s estate. He has sought an unspecified amount as damages from the defendants.
The lawsuit papers state that the company failed to properly inspect and maintain the said aircraft. Additionally, they did not care about the lives of the passengers and did not stop the pilot, Ian Biggs from flying in non-ideal weather conditions at that time.
He also states that the pilot did not have the requisite training for the flight. Steven is the son of Louisiana State University’s offensive coordinator.
The other lawsuits about this crash
The families of the other two victims of the crash and the sole survivor in this crash, Global Data Vice President Stephen Wade Berzas have also filed separate lawsuits against the same defendants.
The car of Kristie Danielle Britt was also hit by the falling plane. She too has filed a case against the company and named the same defendants in it.
The National Transportation and Safety Board is still investigating this accident. It has not yet released its final report. But it did admit that on the day of the crash, the air visibility was extremely low in the area.
The agency is also looking into the training and experience of the pilot Ian Biggs. Additionally, it is also checking on the aircraft’s maintenance history. This is to understand whether there was a technical snag that led to this disaster and casualties.
The crash details
The airplane was headed to Atlanta for the college football playoff game which was to take place between Louisiana State University and the University of Oklahoma. It took off well from the Lafayette Regional Airport, Louisiana but soon after it hit the ground.
Besides Carley, the wife, Gretchen D. Vincent, 51, and the son, Michael Walker Vincent, 15 of the person who owns Global Data Systems also died in the crash.
The other two who succumbed were pilot Ian Biggs and Robert Vaughn Crisp II, 59. The sixth person who was flying in the same plane was Stephen Wade Berzas, 37.
He was critically hurt but has survived the crash. As it crashed down, the plane hit and hurt many other people on the ground.
